Telemundo Wins Six Cynopsis Media Awards for World Cup Coverage

Telemundo claimed six wins at the 2023 Cynopsis Sports Media Awards this morning at the Edison Hotel in New York City where industry professionals gathered to recognize and celebrate the ever-evolving industry. Telemundo’s coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ was awarded for Live Coverage of a Sports Event – National, Documentary Special TV/Movie, Pregame Show, Over the Top (OTT) Service, and Use of Integrated Sponsorship for Broadcast. My New Favorite Futbolista, Telemundo and LX News’ bilingual podcast about the FIFA World Cup, won the award for Spoken Word Series – English. 

“We are honored to be recognized by Cynopsis Media for the phenomenal work our team produced around the 2022 FIFA World Cup,” said Eli Velazquez, Executive Vice President of Sports, Telemundo Deportes. “We had a record-breaking year, and we look forward to continue presenting our audiences with the most compelling and complete coverage of all the action both on and off the pitch.” 

In total, Telemundo garnered 13 nominations this year, including two for Live Coverage of a Sports Event – National and Studio Show categories. Other categories the network was nominated for include Seasonal Coverage – National, Webisode Series, Digital Executive and Best Streaming Platform Innovation. 

Cynopsis Media presented Soccer Hall of Famer Andres Cantor with the Legacy Award honoring the industry legend for all he has accomplished throughout his career thus far including multiple World Cups, many Olympic Games, and countless goal calls. Telemundo’s Eli Velazquez and Ana Jurka introduced and presented Cantor with the award.
