Scott Kaplan to honor Billy Ray Smith on Podcast

Scott Kaplan, longtime San Diego AM sports radio talk show host and co-host of the Scott & BR Show with the late Chargers legend Billy Ray Smith, will host a special two-hour tribute podcast to celebrate the life of Smith, this coming Monday night, Aug. 10, from 5-7 p.m. It will be broadcast Live from American Legion Post 416 in Encinitas. It is located at 210 West F. Street in Encinitas (92024).

Smith passed away peacefully last Wednesday, July 29th, at the age of 64 after a lengthy battle with CTE and dementia. This coming Monday, August 10th would have marked Smith’s 65th birthday.

A first-round pick of the San Diego Chargers in the 1983 NFL Draft, Smith played in 126 games during an illustrious career that spanned 10 seasons, all with the Lightning Bolts.

A collection of Smith’s former teammates and radio colleagues will join Kaplan on the podcast, including Linda Welby, John Browner and Alex Padilla of the Scott & BR Show. Fans are also invited to attend.

Also during the podcast, Kaplan and Crew will be raising funds for local nonprofit, The San Diego Nice Guys. Smith and his wife, Kimberly, will be honored as this year’s Nice Guys of the Year at the 46th Annual Nice Guy of the Year Gala at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina on Saturday, Oct. 10.
