Southern California’s long-time sports leader, the Mighty 1090, is set to return to Southern California’s airwaves this coming Monday (Aug. 17) with a brand-new identity as The Mightier 1090.
Located at 1090 AM on the radio dial, The Mightier 1090 will feature an all-star lineup that includes long-time San Diego prime-time sports-radio staple, Scott Kaplan, along with nationally-syndicated shows featuring Rich Eisen, Tony Bruno and Scott Ferrall.
The station is currently live and running a “History of 1090” audio loop until Monday’s official launch, which is set for 9 a.m. PT.
“It’s taken a tireless amount of work from a number of great people to get us to this point,” said The Mightier 1090’s Bill Hagen. “It has long been our goal to give 1090 AM back to the millions of listeners of Southern California that have missed it since it went off the air almost 18 months ago and we’re doing so as The Mightier 1090!!
“Launching a radio station from scratch during a pandemic with virtually no live sports taking place has been a daunting task to say the least, but we made it, and I am very proud of the product that we will be putting on the air.”
Eisen will officially kick off The Mightier 1090’s return to the air on Monday when his nationally-syndicated Rich Eisen Show debuts at 9 a.m. PT. The long-time NFL Network host and anchor’s show will run daily from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
From 1-3 p.m. on weekdays, Ferrall’s Coast to Coast will fill the airwaves. The sports gambling-themed show previews games, betting lines, point totals and prop bets.
Returning to his familiar prime-time 3-7 p.m. PT slot on 1090 AM is the venerable Kaplan with his Kaplan and Crew Show. Besides being a staple on San Diego’s airwaves for nearly 20 years, Kaplan has been a long-time NFL sideline reporter for both CBS Sports and Westwood One Radio.
Ferrall will return to The Mightier 1090’s airwaves from 7-9 pm for his long-running On the Bench Show, before Bruno and Harry Mays take listeners from 9 p.m. to Midnight with their Into the Night Show.
