Hockey Icon Bossy’s Memories on Heritage Auction Block

Heritage Auctions

A collection of artifacts from the storied career of New York Islanders four-time Stanley Cup champion Mike Bossy is on the auction block and was showcased at Heritage Auctions headquarters in New York City on Monday.

Dozens of mementos from Bossy’s Hall of Fame career include jerseys worn and signed by Bossy, pucks from signature moments, Stanley Cup rings and trophies including his Lady Byng Memorial plaque are among the highlights of the Feb. 24-25 Heritage Winter Platinum Night Sports Auction.

A native of Montreal, Quebec, Bossy spent his entire career with the Islanders from 1977-87.

Josiane Bossy, his daughter, helped to unveil the collection and had vivid memories of attending the games at the old Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island. “I was four or five-years-old, there was so much food to eat, and all the kids were running around having fun.

“But the thing I remember most is that I was scared about him getting hurt,” she continued. “No little girl wants to see her father get hurt. I wouldn’t even watch the games because of that.”

Now an accomplished artist, Josiane credits her father for inspiring her craft. “I didn’t like playing sports, it was too structured,” she said. “So, my father took me to painting classes every week.

“I’ve been painting ever since then,” she added. “The painting inspires me because it reminds me of my dad. It’s a way for me to remember him and connect with the fans, too.”

“We are honored to work with the Bossy family to present the Mike Bossy Collection, one of the greatest players in N.H.L. history,” says Mike Provenzale, Sports Operations Supervisor at Heritage. “It’s an incredible collection that goes all the way back to the first trophy he won as a nine-year-old in Pee Wee Hockey to his Stanley Cup championships to his Hall of Fame ring. There’s something for everyone.”
