Governors Cup

NYC Footy, the leading adult soccer league in the United States, is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of the Governors Cup tournament, set to take place on Saturday, June 1st and Sunday, June 2nd. This year, the Governors Cup marks a significant milestone as it expands its capacity by 25%, welcoming 100 teams and 1,200 players to Governors Island for an unparalleled weekend of soccer.

Within just three days of ticket sales opening in January, the tournament achieved a remarkable feat by selling out, solidifying its reputation as NYC’s most sought-after soccer event. The overwhelming response underscores the immense popularity and demand for inclusive and competitive soccer experiences in the city.

“We are ecstatic to witness the continued growth and enthusiasm surrounding the Governors Cup,” said Tarek Pertew, co-founder of NYC Footy. “Expanding our capacity, securing premier sponsors, and selling out in record time are testament to the unwavering passion for soccer in New York City.”

The Governors Cup has become synonymous with inclusivity and community engagement, embodying NYC Footy’s mission to make soccer accessible to all adults. With a commitment to fostering respect, diversity, and camaraderie, the tournament emphasizes the importance of inclusivity both on and off the field.

This year, the Governors Cup is proud to welcome a roster of esteemed sponsors, including BetterPlayer, NYCFC, Gotham FC, Waterloo Sparkling Water, VAE Labs, and Mack Weldon. Their support further enhances the tournament experience, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere and sense of camaraderie that defines the event.

“As supporters of inclusive sport, we are honored to partner with the Governors Cup and NYC Footy in promoting diversity and unity through soccer,” said Sascha Allendes, Senior National Director of Field Marketing at Waterloo Sparkling Water.

In addition to thrilling soccer matches, attendees can look forward to a range of food and festivities, including delicious specials from ABC Shark Tank’s Pasta by Hudson and a viewing party for the Champions League final on June 1st. The celebration continues with an after-party at Taco Vista’s expansive beer garden on Governors Island, providing the perfect setting for players and fans to unwind and connect.

“Even if you didn’t get a ticket to participate, we invite soccer fans of all backgrounds to join us for a weekend in the sun celebrating the world’s most beautiful beautiful game,” added Pertew. “Together, we’ll make this year’s Governors Cup the most memorable yet.”
