ESPN Deportes Launches New Brand Campaign ‘El Deporte Tiene Nombre y Apellido’

ESPN Deportes is launching a new brand campaign, El Deporte Tiene Nombre y Apellido (In Sports, a Name is Everything) celebrating the passion, identity, and cultural pride that names carry in sports and the powerful connection they create with Latino fans. The campaign debuts today across ESPN Deportes’ linear, digital and social platforms, and features renowned actor and former professional soccer player Danilo Carrera.

Developed in collaboration with creative agency Remezcla, the campaign highlights how athletes’ full names become symbols of pride, recognition and belonging. The phrase “tiene nombre y apellido” is a common expression used when someone becomes so well known, they’re referred by their full name, a sign of respect. The campaign also plays on how “ESPN Deportes” itself sounds like a first and last name. Through bold visuals and a powerful message, it positions ESPN Deportes as a leading destination for Spanish-language sports content.

“‘El Deporte Tiene Nombre y Apellido’ reflects the emotional bond our fans have with sports and how names serve as a bridge to heritage, family, and community,” said Brian Iglesias, vice president of sports marketing at ESPN. “Danilo Carrera brings an authenticity that connects deeply with Hispanic fans, making him the perfect voice for this campaign.”

A former professional soccer player who debuted with Ecuador’s Fuerza Amarilla and now helps lead S.D. Quito, one of Ecuador’s historic clubs, Carrera’s journey mirrors the campaign’s message. His journey from youth soccer standout to actor and now club co-owner reflects the perseverance, passion and cultural pride that define ESPN Deportes.

“Sports have always played a big role in my life,” said Carrera. “Tennis taught me consistency, swimming gave me a winning mindset, and soccer showed me the value of passion and teamwork; lessons I now apply in my acting career. To me, sports are more than just athletic activities; they’re a way of life that connects communities and shapes character.”
