If, like Bill Gates famously wrote more than a quarter-century ago as the digital age ramped up, “Content is King,” then basketball standout turned creator Trey Uno may be onto something. Gaining recognition in and out of the basketball world for his hoops-themed Tik Tok videos and commentary, Uno is right where he wants to be.
“I’ll describe my role as ‘Kontent King’ or freelance content creator,” the Brooklyn native explained. “I use the term “king” because I’m sure there’s no one that can do what I do. maybe they’ll have the same resources if not more but I believe I have endless creativity that just puts me in rooms I’ve only ever dreamed to be in.”
One of the goals? Allow the creativity innate to the game flow into the digital world.
“The concept influencers has changed amateur basketball by giving local hoopers the ability to create for themselves and showcase their talent in front of millions of followers,” added Uno. “Some of these people who never got a chance to play high level basketball are being exposed to that because of their platform in which they created for themselves.”
And while “creator” might not have been on a list of “what do I want to be when I grow up” queries when Trey was coming of age, it fits firmly in his goals.
“My goals are to be happy. just love in the moment & enjoy every step of this journey,” he noted. “I would always complete a goal and say, ‘okay what’s next’ instead of enjoying what I do but if I ever would look down the road to what I want to accomplish it was “to be like Shaq’.
“Everyone knows he was the most dominate player ever but he literally has his hand in everything, doctor, policeman, actor, just look at what he’s doing now at tnt enjoying himself, creating commercials,” he added. “Never satisfied and willingly to step out his comfort zone which led to him be plastered everywhere even in ads such as ‘The General’ car insurance … ‘Be like Shaq’.”
And there’s more to come.
“I’ve always wanted to make the world smile. That’s why I create,” he said. “Whether it’s a funny video or an inspirational one, I want people to look at my content and genuinely feel good overall afterwards.”
And while you may not have seen Uno replacing Flo or the Gekko just yet, don’t cout this up-and-comer out.
