Potvin Leans Into Classic N.Y. Chant

NY Islanders/Twitter

As fan-created chants go, few if any have the staying power of New York Rangers fans’ ignoring actual on-ice success in relation to their neighbors to the East, the Islanders, as the “Potvin Sucks” that follows a familiar set of notes played by sports organists and DJs everywhere. (You know it… DAT, DAT, DAT, DAT-DAT…) Many New York fans of a certain age can’t help but at least subliminally hear the extra phrase tacked on no matter where they hear the tune.

Now, for the legendary Islanders star Denis Potvin and the team, the shoe — er, sock — is on the other foot, as beginning tonight when the team hosts the Rangers at UBS Arena fans can purchase “Potvin Socks,” with a portion of the proceeds going to the Islanders Children’s Foundation, according to the team.
