Phil Simms Joins SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Channel as NFL Analyst

SimmsHorizSiriusXM today announced that 15-year NFL quarterback and veteran broadcaster Phil Simms, who won the Super Bowl XXI MVP award with the New York Giants, will be an NFL analyst on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio channel throughout the 2017 season.

Simms will join host Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo each week for Simms and the Mad Dog, an hour-long program where the duo will discuss the news from the league that week and preview the coming weekend’s matchups. Simms will make his debut on Thursday, September 7 (4:00-5:00 pm ET).  Thereafter Simms and the Mad Dog will air every Friday at 4:00 pm ET.  SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio (channel 82) is available nationwide on satellite radios and on the SiriusXM app.

“I am really excited to be on SiriusXM this season,” said Simms.  “I am a longtime listener so I know it is a great place for fans who love to talk about the game, and having an hour of airtime each week will really allow me to dive in to the topics that are important to me and the fans.  And I have to say I have always enjoyed being on with the Chris, even back when I was playing, so teaming up with him will be a lot of fun.  Simms and the Mad Dog…it has a nice ring to it!”

“With 15 seasons as an NFL signal caller and 22 more analyzing the league from the broadcast booth, Phil’s knowledge of the game is extraordinary and so is his ability to communicate his insights and opinions to the fans,” said Steve Cohen, SiriusXM’s SVP of Sports Programming.  “We are very excited to add his voice to Mad Dog Sports Radio this season.  Phil and Chris are a fun on-air team and will give our listeners a very informative and entertaining 60 minutes of radio every week.”

Simms was drafted by the New York Giants out of Morehead State seventh overall in the 1979 NFL Draft and in his 15 seasons with the franchise set many team passing records.  While leading the Giants to victory in Super Bowl XXI he turned in one of the greatest big game performances in history.  Simms completed 22 of 25 passes, setting a Super Bowl record for accuracy that still stands, and threw three touchdown passes, delivering the Giants their first Super Bowl title and earning MVP honors.  A two-time Pro Bowl selection and a First Team All-Pro in 1986, Simms’ number 11 has been retired by the New York Giants and he is in the team’s Ring of Honor.

Following his playing career, Simms began a successful broadcasting career that saw him work as an analyst for ESPN and NBC before joining CBS, where he was lead NFL analyst for CBS’s NFL coverage for 19 seasons.  He has called eight Super Bowls in his time with NBC and CBS.  This season he will be a studio analyst for CBS’ NFL Today, Showtime’s Inside the NFL and CBS Sports Network’s Monday QB.

Mad Dog Sports Radio’s weekday lineup features Morning Men with Evan Cohen and Mike Babchik (6:00 – 10:00 am ET), Schein on Sports with Adam Schein (10:00 am – 1:00 pm ET), Dog Day Sports with Steve Torre (1:00 – 3:00 pm ET), Mad Dog Unleashed with Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo” (3:00 – 6:00 pm ET), Left Coast Live with Nicole Zaloumis and Ric Bucher (6:00 – 9:00 pm ET) and The Rap with Patrick Meagher (9:00 pm – 12:00 am ET).
