SiriusXM Announces Broadcast Plans for Special HBCU Doubleheader Saturday

SiriusXM will deliver listeners nationwide live coverage of a special Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) sports doubleheader on Saturday, February 19, with live broadcasts of the NBA HBCU Classic presented by AT&T basketball game and the HBCU Legacy Bowl football game.

At 2:00 pm ET on February 19, the first-ever NBA HBCU Classic presented by AT&T tips off with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s basketball matchup between Howard University and Morgan State University at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland.  The game, part of the NBA All-Star 2022 festivities, will air nationwide on SiriusXM NBA Radio (channel 86 on SiriusXM radios and on the SXM App at https://siriusxm.us/2nGWJYQ).

SiriusXM’s broadcast will feature Jason Jackson as the play-by-play voice and NBA Champion and HBCU alum Rick Mahorn as the game analyst.  Jackson is the play-by-play voice for Miami Heat radio broadcasts and hosts multiple talk shows on the SiriusXM NBA Radio channel.  Mahorn, who starred at Hampton University prior to an 18-year NBA career, is a radio analyst for the Detroit Pistons and also works as a host/analyst on the SiriusXM NBA Radio channel.

At 4:00 pm ET, the first ever HBCU Legacy Bowl, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, kicks off in Yulman Stadium on the campus of Tulane University in New Orleans.  The postseason all-star game will showcase the best NFL draft-eligible football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities across America, and the game will air live on SiriusXM NFL Radio (channel 88 on SiriusXM radios and on the SXM App at https://siriusxm.us/2MhNr47), and ESPNU Radio (channel 84 on SiriusXM radios and on the SXM App at https://siriusxm.us/2MoydcO).

Jackson State University broadcaster Rob Jay will be the play-by-play voice for the SiriusXM broadcast team, which will feature analysis by Alcorn State head football coach Fred McNair and former NFL defensive end Anthony Herron.  An hour-long pregame show hosted by Jay, McNair and Herron will air from 3:00 to 4:00 pm ET leading into the game broadcast.

On Friday, February 18, SiriusXM will present a special HBCU Legacy Bowl preview show, with Jay, Herron and Charles Davis hosting live at 6:00 pm ET.  Throughout the year, SiriusXM subscribers can also hear from all three hosts on their SiriusXM shows – Jay on ESPNU Radio, Herron on SiriusXM Big Ten Radio and Davis on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

The NBA HBCU Classic was developed by the NBA as part of its ongoing commitment to the HBCU community – specifically around professional development, career advancement and increased support and awareness for HBCU athletics and institutions.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl is part of the week-long celebration of Black culture and history, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, to provide valuable exposure for HBCU students.

SiriusXM is also celebrating and spotlighting a collection of on-campus classics by accomplished musicians who studied at Historically Black Colleges and Universities with a “Voices of HBCUs” mixtape available on Pandora.
