MSG Networks Celebrates Women’s Empowerment Month With Special Programming in March

MSG Networks today announced a month-long lineup of special programming in March to celebrate Women’s Empowerment Month and highlight the incredible contributions of women throughout history that continue to have a lasting impact on sports today.

The commemorative coverage will put an increased spotlight on the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, a groundbreaking piece of federal legislation designed to promote gender equity in schools. The programming during the month will air in ‘MSG Shorts’ and alongside Knicks, Rangers, Islanders and Devils games on both MSG Network and MSG+.

The coverage will include a daily interstitial content series that will feature the history of Title IX, along with notable trailblazing women, teams and leagues that have achieved historic milestones and fought for equal opportunities in the world of sports. Some of the women include Patsy Mink and Edith Green, former members of the U.S. House of Representatives who co-authored the Title IX bill, tennis legend Billie Jean King, Big East Conference Commissioner Val Ackerman, basketball icon and Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman and more.

MSG Networks will also air “Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX,” a full-length feature documentary that details the triumphant story of the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team in the early 1970’s, who went all the way to Congress to fight for gender equality and changed the course of women’s sports forever.

As part of the lineup, MSG Networks will air a special roundtable discussion featuring Islanders host Shannon Hogan, Knicks analyst Monica McNutt, Devils host Erika Wachter and Girl Talk Sports TV founder and WNBA insider Khristina Williams, where they will discuss women who have pioneered through the sports landscape and share their experiences working in sports.

The programming will also include profiles on various women-owned and operated businesses and organizations across New York City, such as Butter Roll, a roller skating social club based in Queens, or Mentl.Sesh, a private mental health practice led by licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist Liz Beecroft that specializes in providing individual therapy to athletes and creative individuals in fashion, entertainment and more.

All Women’s Empowerment Month programming airing in March will also be available on MSG GO, the network’s live streaming and video on demand platform.
