The Basketball Tournament (TBT), the $2 million summer basketball event televised live on ESPN Networks, has partnered with Genius Sports to launch a new digital and fan engagement strategy powered by its real-time data.
As the trusted partner to over 500 sports organizations worldwide including the NBA and NCAA, Genius Sports will provide TBT with the leading technology solutions in world basketball for capturing live data from courtside, managing games and distributing engaging statistics to fans.
To enhance the live broadcast of each game, TBT will provide ESPN with a full range of real-time statistics captured courtside, including shot charts and plus/minus summaries. Advanced statistics and insights will be available to fans across TBT’s desktop and mobile website, social, in-stadia scoreboards and media partners as well as printed reports to enhance in-game coaching decisions.
As legalized betting spreads across the U.S., Genius Sports will enable TBT to commercialize its live data with licensed sportsbooks to engage new fans and enhance the in-game experience. Round-the-clock monitoring of global betting on TBT games also will safeguard against the threats of match-fixing and betting-related corruption.
“We’re excited to begin a long-term partnership with Genius Sports this summer,” said Jon Mugar, founder and CEO of The Basketball Tournament. “Its state-of-the-art technology not only will markedly improve the TBT experience for fans, but it also will help us meet increasing demand for TBT worldwide by enabling us the ability to distribute stats all across the world instantly.”
Travis Black, head of U.S. & emerging sports at Genius Sports, said “With its fast-paced games, young and mobile audience, an enhanced live data and digital strategy presents TBT with a number of exciting opportunities. Our advanced technology and split-second distribution capabilities will provide new levels of insight, bringing TBT fans closer to the action, presenting new revenue opportunities and expanding its global audience.”
